In 1998 a couple named Aaron and Kim Otto took their first steps towards making their dream of an organic and sustainable skincare line come true; with a few quality homemade products, Moon Valley was born. In 2000 they opened their booth at Pike Place Market, in 2005 they created their line of medicinal salves with the help of Dr. Daniel Newman MD ND DOM, and finally, in 2009 they obtained their USDA organic certification, becoming Moon Valley Organics.
The Ottos have their own four-acre farm in Deming, just outside of Bellingham, where they grow the majority of their own herbs and raise bees. As a host farm for WWOOF they are helping foster the next generation of organic farmers and producers. At Moon Valley, they are passionate about pollinators and donate 10% of their profits to pollinator-specific non-profit organizations.
A fellow B Corp since 2014, Moon Valley is committed to sustainable and earth-friendly practices and uses recyclable packaging that is made from as much post-consumer recycled material as possible. They’ve honed their craft, using synergistic blends with herbs that will grow in the usually mild, but sometimes harsh NW Washington climate, and continue to produce new products that will be our favorites for years to come. As they continue to grow, and extend their reach nationally, we are excited to see what’s next for this amazing local company. In their own words:
