east west food rescue

Moving food where it’s needed. EastWest Food Rescue acquires or purchases surplus food predominately from farmers and distributes it with empathy to people in-need. As a volunteer led organization, we coordinate every step from finding new sources of nutritious surplus food to organizing transportation to ensuring rescued food is given to people with food insecurity for free. We support the farming community and work towards sustainable solutions for the food system.

HOUsing hope

Housing Hope offers a full range of affordable housing options throughout Snohomish County. Housing types include emergency shelter, transitional housing, affordable rent units and homeownership opportunities. Housing Hope focuses its activities on Snohomish County and Camano Island, collaborating and cooperating with local communities to make sure programs address the needs of local residents with the lowest incomes and the greatest need.

sharing wheels community bike shop

Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop is a non-profit organization located in Everett, WA. Started in 2002 by a small band of bike enthusiasts, Sharing Wheels has provided refurbished used bicycles to thousands of adults and children through our programs and bike sales. The tools and bike stands at Sharing Wheels are available for anyone to use during open shop hours. People come in to fix their own bikes, often getting a little guidance from more experienced Sharing Wheels volunteers. Low-income people, DIY-tinkerers, and basic bike geeks all benefit from our open community bike shop policy.

Our mission is to end child hunger and build safe communities by empowering people to grow their own food. We foster community-based, socially just, urban, and small-scale agriculture that protects and restores habitat and quality of life for people and wildlife both.To sustain traditions of growingfood for generations to come, we provide agricultural curriculum to schools that aligns with state and federal standards for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). At the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, Farmer Frog began coordinating the distribution of millions of pounds of food for emergency response hunger relief operations in underserved communities around the Pacific Northwest.

Founded in 1998, Leadership Snohomish County (LSC) is a local nonprofit committed to county-specific leadership development. Historically known for its 9-month signature program, LSC has graduated talented and motivated professionals who are informed about local issues and ready to engage in the community for the long term. Thanks to the generosity and support from the alumni and the greater Snohomish county community, LSC is able to offer its expansive trainings at low cost. Between distinctive leadership programs and special events, LSC brings together professionals and community members from across all sectors to examine critical issues that impact Snohomish County and work together to create a thriving community.

Northwest Organization for Animal Help (The NOAH Center) is dedicated to stopping the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable and treatable homeless dogs and cats. We are committed to high quality spay and neuter programs available for low income residents, family friendly pet adoptions, humane education and volunteer programs through our state-of-the-art facilities and Spay/Neuter Center.

PIGS PEACE SANCTUARY

Pigs Peace Sanctuary is a place of tranquility and happiness located one hour north of Seattle in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. They are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a safe home for unwanted, abused or neglected animals in need and are committed to spreading the message of compassion and respect for all animals.

AUGUST 2021

EVERGREEN ARBORETUM AND GARDENS

Referred to as Snohomish County's treasure since 1963, the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens is both a place of beauty and education that is free to visit. The arboretum is located on 3 ½ acres in American Legion Memorial Park, Everett Washington, and is maintained by a small army of volunteers with help from Everett Parks and Community Services. Weaving through these gardens are ADA-approved pathways in main areas. There are countless ways to enjoy all that the Evergreen Arboretum has to offer: docent-led tours, educational classes, the annual plant sale, and volunteerism.
