Happy Pride Month!

Sno-Isle Food Co-op is proud to be a place where everyone is welcome. This month and every month at Sno-Isle Food Co-op we stand against hate and are firm in our belief of inclusivity. We acknowledge that there is a lot of work to do in our community until LGBTQIA+ people are free and safe from harm. We remain committed to actively doing this work.

History

Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall riots that began on June 28, 1969. They marked a turning point for a new generation of political activism and recognition. This month is a chance to celebrate LGBTQIA+ people across history and continue the fight for full and equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people around the globe.

One way to celebrate Pride Month is to support LGBTQIA+-owned businesses. At the Co-op, we are proud to support a diverse range of brands including LGBTQIA+ business owners, farmers, and vendors. Here are three you can find at the Co-op today.

GT’s Living Foods
We all know and love GT Kombucha, but did you know that the company GT Living Foods is an LGBTQIA+-owned business? GT (George Thomas) Dave is the founder and CEO of the company and has been working on his Kombucha business since he was a teenager, becoming the first business to put Kombucha on the shelves in the US. Not only do we sell a wide range of Kombuchas, but we also carry their newer Cocoyo, a delicious coconut-based yogurt.

Stonewall Kitchen

Jim Stott and Jonathan King began their hugely successful specialty foods company in their kitchen in 1991 in York, Maine. Their products are sold in thousands of stores worldwide, with hundreds of offerings including condiments, baking mixes, pasta, jams, dips, and more. At Sno-Isle Food Co-op, we are proud to carry a variety of dried gourmet pastas from this brand.

Gabriel Cosmetics
Founded by Gabriel De Santino in 1992, Gabriel Cosmetics Inc. originated as a botanical skincare company drawing on Gabriel's personal influences and childhood experiences of homeopathic skincare and cosmetics. Based in Redmond, Washington, we are thrilled to count Gabriel Cosmetics as a local vendor as well. We offer a huge range of their products including nail polishes, foundations, eye shadows, and more. Find them in our Wellness Department.

Local Love

Another way to celebrate Pride is to support other LGBTQIA+-owned businesses here in town. Three of our favorites in Everett are Catalyst Café, Petrikor Modern General Store, and Everett Improv.

 Read All About It

If you are looking to learn more, you can find some amazing reads at our local library. Everettt Public Library has compiled Pride Month reading lists for adults, teens and kids. Find them all right here.

Floral Fun

If you are looking for a fun and educational way to celebrate, how about signing up for our Pride Floral Crown Class? Students will learn to create a beautiful floral crown of their own. All procceds from this course will be donated to The Trevor Project which provides 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ young people. Text, chat, or call anytime to reach a trained counselor.
